AGARTALA: Former Chief Minister of Tripura and sitting Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb held a press conference today, Sunday, August 16, 2026, at his residence in Om Apartment, Dhaleshwar.
Addressing the media, the MP presented a detailed report on the 57 issues he raised during the recently concluded Parliament session, focusing on state infrastructure, highway repairs, MPLADS fund utilization, and upcoming tourism initiatives.
Key Points Highlighted During the Press Conference
- Focus on National Highways & Road Quality: Deb expressed serious concern over the damaged state of several national highway stretches in Tripura following the 2024 floods and criticized contractor lapses. He proposed shifting from bitumen to durable concrete road construction for long-term sustainability, citing a pilot project proposed for the Udaipur–Amarpur route.
- Parliamentary Performance: Out of 57 starred and unstarred questions submitted regarding Tripura and the Northeast, 15 were admitted for discussion. Key subjects included railway connectivity, essential fertilizer supplies, natural gas, mineral resources, and fisheries development.
- MPLADS & PMNRF Fund Allocations: The MP shared that ₹15.76 crore from MPLADS funds has been spent on various state development projects during his tenure across both Houses of Parliament. Additionally, ₹56.90 lakh was sanctioned from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for 24 beneficiaries from Tripura.
- Major Tourism Proposals:
- Majlishpur (Jirania): A comprehensive tourism development proposal estimated at ₹140 crore.
- Belonia & Jolaibari: Projects worth ₹30 crore, including the development of Daityeshwari Kalibari.
- Unakoti Heritage Site: Called for a holistic upgrade beyond sculpture restoration, recommending boundary walls, visitor cafeterias, sanitation facilities, and modern conservation infrastructure to build a world-class destination.
