In a major blow to illegal drug cultivation, the Srinagar Police Station, in a joint operation with the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), successfully destroyed a massive cannabis (Ganja) plantation in the Anandnagar area today.
The Operation at Forest Lane
Acting on specific intelligence regarding illegal cultivation deep within the forested pockets, security forces launched a coordinated raid at Forest Lane in Bharat Sardar Para, under the jurisdiction of the Anandnagar area.
During the operation, the joint team identified approximately 7 Kani (around 2.8 acres) of land being used for illicit cannabis farming. The forces systematically uprooted and destroyed nearly 1,500 mature cannabis plants.
Market Value and “Nasha Mukt” Mission
According to police sources, the estimated market value of the destroyed plantation is approximately ₹3 Lakh. This raid is part of the state government’s ongoing “Nasha Mukt Tripura” (Drug-Free Tripura) campaign, aimed at dismantling the local supply chain of narcotics intended for inter-state trafficking and cross-border smuggling.
Cultivators Flee Before Raid
In a notable development, police observed that a significant portion of the crop had been harvested just hours before the security forces arrived. It is suspected that local cultivators received an early warning of the impending raid and managed to cut down and escape with some of the yield.
“While we successfully destroyed a large area, some cultivators fled before our arrival. We are currently investigating to identify the owners of these lands and those involved in this illegal trade,” a senior police official stated.
The Srinagar Police has reaffirmed that such anti-narcotics drives will continue with increased intensity in the coming days to ensure the complete eradication of illegal plantations in the region.
