Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the crucial role of the media in fostering transparency and enhancing the connection between the government and the public during the inauguration of a three-day media workshop at the Agartala Press Club on November 4.
Saha highlighted the significance of truthful and objective journalism in building public trust and improving governance. He stated, “The media plays an essential role in bridging the gap between the government and the people. Through their active participation, we can establish a more transparent and reliable system of governance.”
The workshop, jointly organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department and the Agartala Press Club, brought together journalists from various media platforms across the state.
Reaffirming his government’s dedication to press freedom, Saha emphasized that he refrains from interfering in media operations. He stressed the importance of a robust monitoring system to address issues promptly and efficiently, especially in the context of breaking news related to law and order.
Saha urged journalists to maintain professionalism, objectivity, and sensitivity in their reporting, emphasizing that they carry a greater responsibility and accountability than ordinary citizens.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of effective law enforcement in ensuring the proper implementation of existing laws. He mentioned a recent seminar on cybercrime awareness organized by the Defence Department as a crucial step towards creating a secure and informed society.
Recognizing the constructive role of the press, Saha acknowledged that media scrutiny helps the government identify areas for improvement. He stated, “The media points out where the government falls short, enabling us to better serve the people. Our government is fully committed to ensuring good governance for all citizens.”
The inaugural session was attended by ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Secretary Ramakanta Dey, and other prominent media professionals.
The workshop, scheduled to continue until November 6, will include sessions focused on enhancing journalistic skills and promoting responsible reporting. It aims to equip journalists with the tools and knowledge needed to fulfill their vital role in society.
