Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the crucial role of the media in fostering transparency and enhancing the relationship between the government and the public during an event on November 4.
Addressing a three-day media workshop at the Agartala Press Club, Saha highlighted the significance of truthful and objective journalism in building public trust and improving governance. He stressed that the media serves as a vital link between the government and the people, and with their active involvement, a more transparent and reliable system of governance can be achieved.
The workshop, a collaboration between the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department and the Agartala Press Club, brought together journalists from various media platforms across the state.
Saha reiterated his government’s dedication to press freedom, stating that he refrains from interfering with media operations. He mentioned that upon learning of breaking news, particularly relating to law and order, he promptly seeks information and takes necessary measures. He emphasized the importance of a robust monitoring system in resolving issues efficiently.
Encouraging journalists to uphold professionalism, objectivity, and sensitivity in their reporting, Saha emphasized the heightened responsibility and accountability that journalists bear. He also emphasized the significance of effective law enforcement in ensuring the implementation of existing laws, citing a recent Defence Department seminar on cybercrime awareness as a crucial initiative for creating a secure and well-informed society.
Recognizing the constructive role of the press in scrutinizing and highlighting areas for improvement, Saha expressed his government’s commitment to delivering good governance for all citizens. The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Secretary Ramakanta Dey, and several prominent media professionals.
The workshop, scheduled to run until November 6, will include sessions aimed at enhancing journalistic skills and promoting responsible reporting.
