Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has set an ambitious goal for the state to increase its per capita income from $2,300 to $23,000 by the year 2047. He made this announcement during the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting in New Delhi, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and other prominent government officials.
Dr. Saha outlined Tripura’s strategic roadmap for development, aiming to create a future-ready and resilient state. He mentioned that the government has engaged in a consultative process with various stakeholders to identify key enablers for sustainable economic growth, including a strong agricultural base, high literacy rate, rich tourism assets, abundant natural resources, a forest-based economy, improved infrastructure, strategic geographical location, expanding tax base, and energy surplus status.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of transparent governance, progressive policies, and an investor-friendly ecosystem to achieve the state’s development goals. He highlighted the government’s focus on sectors such as medical wellness, eco-tourism, IT, knowledge economy, resilient agriculture, cultural heritage, and sports to boost economic growth and raise per capita income.
In order to accelerate industrial growth, Tripura is developing infrastructure in 20 Industrial Estates and has introduced the Tripura Industrial Investment Policy 2024 to promote manufacturing and services. The state has also implemented various business reforms and deregulation measures to attract investments in sectors like rubber, bamboo processing, healthcare, education, data centers, hospitality, and commerce.
Furthermore, Tripura is committed to green development initiatives, including an 800 MW pump storage project for renewable energy and a State-specific Green Economy Policy Framework. The government is also investing in human capital by setting up Incubation Centers in higher education institutions to support youth in starting innovative startups.
Dr. Saha expressed confidence in the state’s progress, citing a GDP growth of over 15% in the past three years as a testament to the positive strides being made. He concluded by reaffirming Tripura’s commitment to creating more job creators and offering opportunities in various sectors to drive economic growth and achieve the ambitious per capita income target by 2047.
