In a late-night anti-narcotics operation on Monday, the Jatrapur Police in Sepahijala District of Tripura, in coordination with Tripura State Rifles (TSR), apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals from Baidyanath village under Dhanpur Panchayat and seized two large plastic drums filled with dried cannabis.
The raid, which took place around 11 PM, was conducted based on a tip-off received by Subrata Debnath, the Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur Police Station. “We launched a swift operation with TSR personnel and recovered a significant quantity of dried ganja. Three individuals were arrested for illegal entry and drug-related offences,” Debnath stated.
The individuals arrested have been identified as Mainul Islam, Taijul Islam, and Zahirullah, all residents of the Barisal district in Bangladesh. During preliminary interrogation, the trio admitted to illegally crossing the international border and hiding in the village for several days to procure cannabis. The contraband was recovered from a house owned by Zakir Hossain, who managed to escape moments before the raid by fleeing into a neighboring residence.
Concerns over cross-border infiltration were highlighted by OC Debnath, who stated, “Given the current national and international scenario, unauthorised entry and illegal settlement by foreign nationals pose significant security challenges. We are maintaining heightened vigilance in coordination with the BSF and TSR.”
Debnath also mentioned that joint patrolling and surveillance activities have been intensified across the region to prevent further infiltration and illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border. This operation showcases the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and unauthorized border crossings in the region.
