Tripura Police recently handed over the bodies of three Bangladeshi nationals who were lynched by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in the Vidyabill area of Khowai district. The incident took place on October 15, leading to a tragic end for the three individuals.
According to police officials, a case was registered at Champahoar Police Station after the bodies of the deceased were recovered. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the victims were Bangladeshi nationals. Subsequently, after the post-mortem examinations were conducted, the bodies were handed over to the Bangladesh Police and Border Guards of Bangladesh through the Paharura border area.
Reports indicate that the deceased individuals had allegedly attacked villagers with sharp weapons, resulting in critical injuries to two locals when they were caught stealing cattle. In response, a mob of villagers retaliated by beating the men, ultimately leading to their deaths at the scene.
The handover process on the Indian side was overseen by Assistant Commandant of the 104th BSF Battalion Kundan Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station Krishna Dhan Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of Champahaoar Police Station Dilip Kumar Debbarma, and Additional Superintendent of Police. On the Bangladesh side, Commandant of the 55th Battalion BGB Company Abul Khair and Officer-in-Charge of Chunarughat Police Station Zahidul Islam were present during the handover.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Jewel Mia, Pandit Mia, and Sajal Mia. Following the tragic incident, border security forces on both sides have heightened surveillance measures in the area to ensure peace and prevent further incidents of violence.
