Tripura Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das has issued a stern warning to Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, stating that he will take legal action if Chaudhury does not apologize publicly by October 26 for allegedly making derogatory remarks against him and his family.
During a press conference, Das, who also serves as the Minister of ARDD, accused Chaudhury of spreading false allegations in an attempt to defame him. He specifically addressed Chaudhury’s questioning of his income and tax payments, asserting that he has been filing income tax returns since 2014 when he was working in the private sector.
Highlighting past controversies involving Chaudhury, Das referenced the removal of the CPIM leader from the Tribal Welfare portfolio by the then Chief Minister Manik Sarkar due to alleged corruption. He also expressed dismay at the CPIM bringing his mother into the dispute and labeling her as anti-Sanatan Dharma.
Challenging Chaudhury directly, Das stated that if the CPIM leader could prove within ten days that Das’s brother is a bigger taxpayer in the state, he would resign from his position. However, if Chaudhury fails to do so by the deadline, Das insisted that an apology must be issued. Otherwise, he threatened to file a defamation case in court.
Referring to alleged corruption during Chaudhury’s time as a minister in the Left Front government, Das cited claims made by CPIM youth leader Chandi Charan Tripura regarding a Rs 26 crore scam allegedly involving Chaudhury, which reportedly gained national media attention.
Das dismissed Chaudhury’s accusations as baseless and irrelevant, criticizing CPIM leaders for their alleged mentality akin to China and Pakistan and labeling them as “liars.” The ongoing feud between the two political figures has escalated, with Das vowing to seek legal recourse if an apology is not issued by the specified deadline.
