Tripura is set to receive a significant boost in tribal welfare with the sanctioning of Rs 141.82 crore under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) for a five-year period. This funding will cover 392 revenue villages in the state, marking a significant step towards the holistic development of tribal communities.
The announcement was made by Tripura Power, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath during an event celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh in Hejamara and Lefunga RD Blocks. Minister Nath outlined the various initiatives that will be funded through this allocation, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure and livelihood projects in uplifting tribal populations.
Key allocations include Rs 81.69 crore for the construction of new hostels, Multi-Purpose Marketing Centres, and the renovation of existing hostels attached to schools. Additionally, funds will be used to construct Anganwadi Centres, promote fish farming, support horticulture development, and provide electricity connections to households and public places.
Minister Nath highlighted the government’s commitment to the holistic development of tribal and Janajati communities, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Initiatives such as PM Janman and DAJGUA are aimed at bridging developmental gaps and empowering tribal populations through education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
The Minister also emphasized the importance of engaging youth in the development process, noting a student-focused programme under DAJGUA in West Tripura district. Events such as quiz competitions on Janajati development aim to foster positive thinking and build a more inclusive society.
Overall, the DAJGUA programme is seen as a significant intervention to address long-standing developmental challenges in tribal areas, with a focus on education, healthcare, livelihood, and infrastructure development. This funding allocation represents a major step towards ensuring the socio-economic empowerment of tribal communities in Tripura.
