Tripura has seen a significant decrease in infant and maternal mortality rates, according to Chief Minister Manik Saha, who made the announcement on November 8. He attributed the improvement to the state’s focused investment in healthcare infrastructure and services.
Speaking at the 19th annual conference of the Tripura chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India at the KLS Auditorium of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, Saha highlighted the unprecedented improvements in the state’s healthcare system in recent years.
The Chief Minister pointed out that previously impossible medical procedures are now successfully being conducted in Tripura, such as kidney transplants. Efforts are also being made to enable liver transplants within the state, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the need for residents to travel outside for advanced medical treatment.
Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to building public trust in the healthcare system through modernization and accessibility. Both urban and rural healthcare are receiving equal attention, with new trauma centers and upgraded facilities being developed in district and sub-divisional hospitals.
He noted that infant and maternal mortality rates have significantly decreased due to ongoing improvements in health services, underscoring the government’s dedication to strengthening the sector at all levels.
The Chief Minister also announced the expansion of telemedicine services at Agartala Government Medical College to enhance patient access. Plans are in place to set up a studio to maximize the benefits of telemedicine for patients.
During the conference, two doctors were honored for their exceptional contributions to medicine, while a medical student was recognized for outstanding academic performance.
Saha reiterated the state government’s commitment to not only modernizing healthcare but also ensuring quality medical services are accessible to all citizens in Tripura.
