Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has accused supporters of the Tipra Motha Party of setting fire to a BJP office in Mandwai on the night of September 23, causing significant damage to the property. Debbarma visited the site of the incident on September 24 and expressed his outrage at the destruction caused by the fire.
According to Debbarma, the fire destroyed furniture, party flags, and cutouts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manik Saha. He warned that those responsible for the attack would face severe consequences for their actions. Debbarma stated, “A group of Tipra Motha Party supporters set ablaze the BJP party office at Mandwai by pouring in petrol. Those involved in the incident will face consequences. No one can weaken the BJP by carrying out such attacks on the party offices and party workers.”
Debbarma confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged with local police, and he urged for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. He emphasized that the law enforcement authorities would take necessary action to ensure that those responsible for the arson are held accountable. “The people who set the party office on fire will be arrested. The police will act as per the law. Those who are trying to create unrest in the state will not be spared,” he added.
The incident in Mandwai is part of a series of attacks targeting BJP workers and journalists, which has drawn criticism from Chief Minister Manik Saha. The Tipra Motha Party, a partner in the BJP-led state government, has been under scrutiny for its alleged involvement in these violent incidents. Most recently, a clash at Hezamara in West Tripura raised concerns about the escalating tensions between political parties in the region.
Authorities are currently investigating the Mandwai incident to identify and apprehend those responsible. The state government is taking measures to ensure the safety and security of all political parties and their members in Tripura.
