Agartala, November 23 —
The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) has announced a renewed agitation demanding official recognition and implementation of the Roman script. After repeatedly placing the demand before the Chief Minister with no visible action taken, the organisation has declared the beginning of a sustained movement starting November 25.
According to TSF leaders, a one-day protest and sit-in demonstration will be held at the Circuit House area, marking the first phase of their agitation. The federation stated that despite submitting memorandums and holding discussions at various administrative levels, the government has shown “no concrete initiative” to address the long-pending demand.
TSF Vice President Jan Debbarma, along with other senior members, announced that the November 25 protest will be followed by monthly agitation programmes, signalling a long-term movement until the government responds.
The organisation emphasized that the adoption of the Roman script is essential for preserving linguistic identity, ensuring better learning outcomes, and strengthening cultural continuity among the indigenous community.
With growing support among students and community groups, TSF’s upcoming protest is expected to draw significant attention to the issue.
