AGARTALA: Seeking justice for the tribal men and women vegetable vendors allegedly evicted and looted near the Don Bosco School area in Nandanagar, a delegation of the Tipra Women’s Federation (TWF) visited the spot on Thursday to interact directly with the affected traders.
The delegation included TWF President Manihar Debbarma, MLA Swapna Debbarma, and TTAADC MDC Geeta Debbarma, who assessed the situation and listened to the grievances of the small-scale local sellers.
Key Issues & Demands Raised by TWF Leadership
Speaking to media representatives after interacting with the displaced vendors, MDC Geeta Debbarma leveled severe allegations regarding the eviction drive:
- Allegations of Illegal Eviction & Looting: Geeta Debbarma stated that a group of miscreants recently forcibly evicted tribal male and female vegetable vendors who had been selling produce near the Don Bosco School area. She alleged that the miscreants illegally confiscated and took away the vendors’ agricultural stock and produce.
- Demand for Immediate Return of Goods & Justice: The TWF leadership demanded a fair investigation into the incident, severe legal action against those involved, and the immediate return of all confiscated produce to the poor traders.
- Warning of Statewide Agitation: MDC Geeta Debbarma warned that if the state administration and local authorities fail to ensure justice and protect the livelihoods of marginalized vendors, TWF alongside partner organizations will launch a massive, widespread agitation in the coming days.
