Thousands of protesters rallied across the U.S. against President Trump’s policies on deportations, government firings, and the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.
Protests Erupt Across US Against Trump Policies
Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Washington, D.C., and numerous other cities across the United States on Saturday, demonstrating their opposition to President Donald Trump’s policies. Protesters voiced concerns about deportations, federal government firings, and the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.
Outside the White House, demonstrators displayed banners with messages such as “Workers should have the power,” “No kingship,” “Stop arming Israel,” and “Due process,” as shown in media footage. Many protesters chanted in support of migrants facing deportation or deportation attempts by the Trump administration. They also expressed solidarity with federal employees who have lost their jobs and with universities facing potential funding cuts.
“As Trump and his administration mobilize the use of the U.S. deportation machine, we are going to organize networks and systems of resistance to defend our neighbors,” a protester declared at a rally in Lafayette Square, near the White House.
Other protesters waved Palestinian flags and wore keffiyeh scarves, chanting “Free Palestine” and expressing solidarity with Palestinians affected by the conflict in Gaza. Some demonstrators also carried symbols of support for Ukraine, urging the U.S. to take a stronger stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine.
Since taking office in January, President Trump and his ally, Elon Musk, have significantly reduced the size of the federal government, reportedly firing over 200,000 workers and attempting to dismantle various agencies. The administration has also detained foreign students and threatened to withhold federal funding from universities due to their diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, climate initiatives, and pro-Palestinian protests. These policies have drawn condemnation from various rights groups.
Near the Washington Monument, protesters’ banners carried messages such as “Hate never made any nation great” and “Equal rights for all does not mean less rights for you.”
Similar demonstrations occurred in New York City, Chicago, and dozens of other locations throughout the country. This marked the second day of nationwide protests since President Trump assumed office.
