Anger of the people is burning on the streets of Koilashahar!! The private electricity service provider company, Sai Computer Limited, has angered the villagers, leading them to block the roads.
For the past few years, in the Dhaliyar Kandi Gram Panchayat area of Koilashahar, several areas have been facing low voltage issues during day and night, resulting in the inability to use electricity for households, fans, etc. The students in the village are unable to study at home after sunset. The elderly in the village are falling ill due to excessive heat. The villagers are suffering from instability. However, every month, the private electricity service provider company, Sai Computer Limited, is collecting electricity bills from every household in the village. But the electricity service is not being provided properly. Due to regular low voltage in the village, water pumps are not functioning, leading to a shortage of drinking water for the villagers. Despite the intense cry for water in the village, there is no regular supply of drinking water from the relevant department. The villagers have written several times and also verbally informed Sai Computer Limited to maintain electricity service in the village, but Sai Computer Limited has not taken any effective action. The villagers have also informed the local administration officials and the district magistrate of Unakoti district in writing several times about the need to maintain electricity service in the village, but no action has been taken, according to the protesters.
The villagers, frustrated with the electricity service, began a protest from Monday morning, June 30, blocking the Tilabazar-Baburbazar road at Tilabazar Junction in Koilashahar. They also blocked the Tilabazar-Dhaliyar Kandi road simultaneously. Upon receiving news of the road blockades, a large police force from the Iranian police station and TSR unit arrived at the protest site. The protesters, enraged by the blockade, set fire to the tires of vehicles at the protest site. When the police from the Iranian police station initially tried to engage in dialogue with the protesters at the blockade site, the protesters refused to engage in dialogue. The protesters claim that for several years, the villagers in Dhaliyar Kandi Gram Panchayat have been suffering from the torture in the name of electricity service and that the villagers are not able to tolerate the hardships they are facing in the name of electricity service. As long as Sai Computer Limited does not provide electricity service properly in the village, the road blockades will continue, they said.
