Several individuals, including government officers, were injured in a violent attack in Tripura’s Surma, leading Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to place blame on Tipra Motha supporters. The incident took place in the Dhalai district of Tripura after a strike organized by a Motha-linked forum ended on Thursday evening.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha swiftly condemned the attack and instructed the administration to take immediate action against those responsible. Among the injured were Block Development Officer Abhijit Majumder, Engineer Animesh Saha, and local residents who were reportedly targeted by Tipra Motha supporters in Santirbazar.
In response to the violence, security forces have been deployed in the Surma Assembly constituency area to maintain peace. Chief Minister Dr. Saha personally visited the GBP Hospital in Agartala to meet with the victims and inquire about their condition.
Former MLA and Tipra Motha leader Rajeshwar Debbarma issued a plea for peace and harmony between communities, acknowledging that even a senior police officer was injured during the clash. Paramilitary platoons have been stationed in the affected areas, with senior police officers overseeing the situation.
As tensions remain high, internet services in parts of the Dhalai district are expected to be cut off. The exact circumstances leading to the attack are still unclear, but Chief Minister Dr. Saha, who holds the home portfolio, has pointed fingers at Tipra Motha for instigating the violence. The government is committed to maintaining law and order in the region and ensuring the safety of all residents.
