Several government officials and local residents were injured in a violent attack in Surma, Tripura, which has been attributed to supporters of the Tipra Motha political party. The incident took place after a strike organized by a Motha-linked forum ended on Thursday evening.
In response to the attack, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited the GBP Hospital in Agartala to meet with the victims and inquire about their condition. He strongly condemned the violence and instructed the administration to take immediate action against those responsible for the attack. Among the injured were the Block Development Officer (BDO) Abhijit Majumder, Engineer Animesh Saha, and several local residents.
The situation in the Surma Assembly constituency in Dhalai district has escalated, prompting the deployment of security forces to maintain order. It has been reported that several individuals have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, with some being transferred to the GBP Hospital in Agartala for further treatment.
Tipra Motha leader Rajeshwar Debbarma has called for peace and unity among communities following the incident, revealing that even a senior police officer was injured during the clash. Paramilitary platoons have been stationed in the affected areas, with senior police officers overseeing the situation. Additionally, internet services in parts of Dhalai district may be disconnected as a precautionary measure.
