Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura have detained a total of 16 Bangladeshi nationals from three different locations in the state.
In Mohanpur, the BSF detained nine Bangladeshi nationals near the Manu Border Outpost, including two children and two transgenders, for illegally crossing the international border into India. The individuals, identified as Santosh Mallick, Elona Mallick, Dipul Sarkar, Sajal Sarkar, Pari Pal, Ritwika Pal, and Ruma Pal, have admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals and are currently being investigated by authorities.
In Sepahijala district, Tripura Police detained five members of the same family from Kurigram district in Bangladesh for illegally entering Indian territory near the Madhupur area. The individuals, identified as Manir Khan, Saheba Khatun, Shahjala Khan, Swadhin Khan, and Dulali Khatun, were reportedly en route to Delhi and have confessed to being assisted in crossing the international border.
Additionally, in Belonia under the South District, Tripura Police detained two suspected Bangladeshi nationals, Prantosh Chandra Sutradhar and Subha Das, from a stadium. The police have requested for further investigation and are seeking police remand for the two individuals.
All detainees are currently in police custody and will be produced before the court for legal proceedings. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter in order to determine the circumstances surrounding the illegal border crossings.
