The decomposed body of a 37-year-old woman, identified as Sharmistha Modak, was found in her home in Maiganga village in Khowai district of Tripura on Saturday night. The discovery was made after villagers reported a foul smell coming from her residence, located about five kilometers from the Teliamura police station. Police arrived at the scene to find the body stuffed inside a plastic sack, leading them to suspect foul play in her death.
Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura police station, Jayanta Dey, stated that initial investigations suggest that this was not a suicide but rather a murder. A forensic team has been called in to gather evidence and determine the cause of death.
Sharmistha Modak had previously been living in Dasda, North Tripura, after her marriage but had moved to Maiganga after her divorce. Police revealed that she had been in a relationship with a close relative, which her family strongly disapproved of, leading to a rift between them. Sharmistha had been living alone in her house in Maiganga at the time of her death.
Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation to uncover the motive behind the suspected murder, the timeline of events leading up to her death, and the individuals involved. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Further updates on this case are expected as the investigation progresses.
