Agartala, Tripura – In a bold move addressing growing concerns over illegal cross-border infiltration, Tipra Motha Party MLA Animesh Debbarma has formally petitioned Governor Indra Sena Reddy, urging the deployment of a Special Task Force (STF) to monitor and curb the entry of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan into Tripura.
The letter, co-signed by Tipra Motha MLAs, Executive Members (EMs), and Members of District Councils (MDCs), was submitted with a request for it to be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for urgent action.
Expresses Gratitude, Calls for Stronger Implementation
In his statement, Debbarma thanked the Government of India, particularly Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for issuing a directive to identify and deport illegal entrants from neighbouring countries.
“First of all, I sincerely thank the Government of India for issuing an order to identify and deport individuals who have illegally entered India from countries like Myanmar, Pakistan, and Bangladesh,” said Debbarma.
“However, we believe that proper investigations are not being conducted against such individuals.”
Need for a Special Task Force (STF)
Debbarma emphasized that merely issuing directives was insufficient without ground-level enforcement mechanisms. He proposed the deployment of a Special Task Force in Tripura to actively:
- Identify illegal infiltrators
- Conduct proper investigations and documentation
- Facilitate the deportation of unauthorised entrants
He stated that such a force would play a crucial role in national security and safeguard the demographic and cultural interests of indigenous communities in Tripura.
Rising Concerns in Border-State Tripura
The appeal comes at a time of heightened concerns in Tripura regarding cross-border movement, which many local leaders claim is having a socio-political impact on the tribal population and overall law and order in the state.
Tipra Motha Party leaders argue that unchecked infiltration could lead to resource strain, demographic imbalance, and threats to indigenous rights and culture, which their party is committed to protecting.
Call for Immediate Central Intervention
The party’s letter to the Governor urges the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to treat the matter with immediate priority and implement measures beyond routine border security, including dedicated surveillance and enforcement.
With the upcoming political and administrative discussions on border management, the issue of infiltration in Tripura is likely to gain national attention.
