Incidents of drug smuggling in various parts of the country are coming to light regularly. Similarly, last night, five citizens, including four women, were arrested with drugs, including marijuana, from the area surrounding the Trishabari Railway Station under the jurisdiction of the Teliamura Police Station in Tripura. The arrest of these five individuals, among whom four were women, is particularly alarming. Following the incident, the Teliamura Police claimed that when the police were conducting vehicle checks in the Trishabari area, the movements and conversations of the five individuals seemed suspicious, leading to a search. After the search, 32 kilograms of dried marijuana were seized from the arrested individuals, with an estimated market value of over two lakh rupees. The police have claimed that necessary legal action will be taken against the arrested individuals and an investigation into the incident will be conducted according to the law.
It is not clear where these drugs were brought from or where they were intended to be taken, but the police suspect that there was a plan to transport them to another state using the railway station. This incident, along with multiple drug seizures in the vicinity of the Teliamura Railway Station area during this time, has certainly heightened concerns.
