AGARTALA | June 19, 2026: In a major push to accelerate the state government’s drug-free mandate, the West Tripura District Administration has announced a comprehensive week-long mass awareness campaign. Addressing a vital press conference today, the District Magistrate (DM) and Collector of West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar, unveiled the roadmap for the upcoming “Nesha Mukt Shapath Saptah” (Drug-Free Oath Week).
The week-long initiative aims to directly engage civil society, academic institutions, and local administrative bodies to build a unified front against the rising menace of substance abuse across the district.
Administration Blueprints a Mass Outreach Strategy
Speaking to media persons at the district headquarters, DM Dr. Vishal Kumar emphasized that enforcement alone cannot eliminate the drug network; rather, it requires a deep-rooted behavioral shift among the youth.
The ‘Drug-Free Oath Week’ will feature a series of structured grassroots programs designed to cover every school, market hub, and gram panchayat across West Tripura.
”Our objective behind organizing the ‘Nesha Mukt Shapath Saptah’ is to transform the anti-drug movement into a mass social campaign (Jan Andolan). Over the next seven days, we will administer anti-drug pledges to thousands of students, organize localized rallies, and coordinate closely with club authorities and sports forums to promote healthy lifestyles. We want the message of prevention to reach every single household,” DM Dr. Vishal Kumar stated during the press meet.
Key Action Points Scheduled for the Week
The District Magistrate outlined several priority areas that the administration will execute during the campaign week:
- Institutional Pledges: Conducting mass oath-taking ceremonies during morning assemblies across all secondary schools, colleges, and technical institutions in the district.
- Community Sensitization: Collaborating with local youth clubs and merchant associations to set up anti-substance abuse hoardings and distribution of informative literature at major commercial junctions.
- Subdivision Drives: Directing all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to hold localized public awareness camps in rural pockets and border areas.
The administration concluded the press briefing by appealing to parents, educators, and social media influencers to actively support the campaign and report any suspicious local activities to the district helpline.
