A wave of protests has swept through Agartala city and other areas, demanding the arrest of CPIM leader and former Member of Parliament Shankar Prasad Datta following his alleged derogatory remarks against Lord Hanuman during a party program.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) organized a rally in Agartala city today, with over 1000 people joining in to demand the arrest of CPIM leader Datta. The rally was led by BJYM State President and MLA Sushanta Deb, along with BJP Vice President Papia Datta.
MLA Deb expressed strong condemnation of Datta’s remarks, stating that the entire state is protesting against it. He highlighted that this incident is not an isolated one, citing previous instances where CPIM has purportedly worked to hurt religious sentiments.
“We strongly condemn and protest it,” Deb said. “The CPIM has worked in various ways to hurt our religious sentiments. They have made derogatory remarks about our beliefs and traditions.”
In a separate event, members of the Bajrang Dal protested in front of the Radhanagar Bus Stand in Agartala, garlanding shoes on an effigy of Shankar Prasad Datta. The group demanded an immediate apology from the former MP, warning of further action if an apology is not issued promptly.
The protests reflect the outrage and anger felt by many in Agartala and beyond over the alleged disrespect shown towards Lord Hanuman by a prominent political figure. The demand for accountability and respect for religious beliefs is at the forefront of these demonstrations, with protesters calling for justice and an end to such inflammatory rhetoric.
