The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Tripura made a significant drug bust at the Agartala Railway Station on August 3 late night, leading to the arrest of three individuals for possession of a large quantity of cannabis.
During a routine inspection at the station, GRP officials noticed three individuals behaving suspiciously. Upon investigation, the police found 9 kilograms of ganja in their possession. The value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 1.5 lakh on the black market.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Prahlad Kumar (36) and Ravita Devi (38) from Bhagalpur, Bihar, and Janmojoy Nunia (25) from Barakhai, Assam.
“A specific case has been registered against the accused at Agartala GRPS under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway,” said a GRP official.
This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to crack down on illegal drug trafficking through rail routes in the region. The GRP is committed to ensuring the safety and security of passengers and maintaining law and order at railway stations.
