Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, is undergoing a transformation with the Agartala Smart City Limited spearheading projects worth over Rs 844 crores. The organization has set an ambitious target to complete storm water drain and road work before the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
Dr. Shailesh, the Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Smart City Limited, revealed that a total of 65 projects have been undertaken, with all 65 projects already completed. Highlighting the city’s historical problem of waterlogging and flooding, Dr. Shailesh explained that measures have been taken to address these issues.
To combat waterlogging, 24 projects worth Rs 64 crore 60 lakh were implemented, including the installation of 6 new flood pumps. Additionally, storm water drains were redesigned for easier cleaning. Super sucker machines and desilting machines were procured to assist in the maintenance of these drains, with the Agartala Municipal Corporation responsible for their upkeep.
Furthermore, the installation of double feeder water supply at flood pump stations ensures continuous operation during inclement weather. In the event of power outages, 6 diesel-driven self-priming high-power pumps guarantee uninterrupted water supply. Real-time monitoring through CCTV cameras at the Integrated Command Control Center has enabled authorities to proactively manage water accumulation during rainfall, making Agartala free from the menace of waterlogging.
The Tripura government has entrusted Agartala Smart City Limited with additional projects worth Rs 844 crores under various schemes. These projects include the construction of 26 km of roads, the establishment of five sewage treatment plants, and the Hoara River Development Project. A smart road network covering 18 routes is also in the works, with progress being made on road and drain construction.
With a concerted effort to improve infrastructure and mitigate environmental challenges, Agartala is poised for a brighter future. The completion of storm water drain and road work before Durga Puja signifies a significant milestone in the city’s journey towards becoming a smarter, more resilient urban center.
