The Twipra Student’s Federation (TSF) in Tripura, a constituent of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), staged a sit-in demonstration on August 18 to protest against illegal immigrants. The protest took place near the Circuit House in Agartala city.
John Debbarma, Vice President of TSF, spoke out against the issue of illegal immigrants, stating that it has been a longstanding problem in Tripura and other North Eastern states for over 40 years. He emphasized the importance of detecting and deporting illegal immigrants, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“We are protesting against illegal immigrants and demanding their detection and deportation,” said John. “We will also submit a memorandum to the chief minister urging strict implementation of these directives.”
In addition to calling for action within Tripura, John also urged the state government to coordinate with other states to prevent illegal immigrants from relocating to Tripura. He noted that with evictions taking place in Assam, there is a risk that those displaced may try to settle in neighboring states.
“It is crucial for the state government to communicate with other states and take preventive measures to stop illegal immigrants from entering Tripura,” John added.
The TSF’s demonstration is part of a larger effort by NESO to address the issue of illegal immigration in the North East region. By raising awareness and demanding action from authorities, these student activists are working towards ensuring the security and integrity of their communities.
