Engineers are central to Tripura’s push for growth, Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on September 15 during a program at Pragya Bhavan celebrating the 58th Engineer’s Day.
Paying homage to Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya, Saha highlighted the crucial role engineers play in the development of infrastructure. He stated that engineers are the backbone of progress and without them, advancement would be impossible.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, Saha stated that Tripura is also aligning itself with this goal. He mentioned that Tripura has embarked on a journey to become a developed state by 2047 and currently ranks fifth nationally in terms of progress.
The Chief Minister praised key institutions such as the Tripura Institute of Technology, NIT, IIIT, ICFAI University, and Techno India for shaping the technical workforce in the state. He also mentioned that approximately Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated in the Union Budget for infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of engineers in various projects including roads, bridges, and digital systems.
Saha highlighted the increasing responsibilities of engineers due to rapid technological advancements. He noted that e-offices have been introduced at all levels of governance in Tripura with the help of engineering expertise.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister shed light on the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state, mentioning that around 2.1 lakh entrepreneurs are registered under MSMEs in Tripura. He emphasized the opportunities in emerging technologies such as drones and AI, particularly in sectors like healthcare.
Saha urged engineers to focus on utilizing local resources to enhance livelihoods, increase per capita income, and boost the state’s GSDP. However, he also raised concerns about the lack of basic engineering skills among many engineers in Tripura, with their main objective being to secure government jobs for monetary gain. He warned that if these issues are not addressed, the state may face challenges in infrastructure development and governance.
In conclusion, Saha emphasized the importance of engineers in driving Tripura’s progress and called for a collective effort to overcome challenges and propel the state towards a brighter future.
