The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has received a significant boost ahead of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections as 920 voters, including a prominent Tipra Motha leader, joined the party in a ceremony attended by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Describing the day as “historic”, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of making the right decision at the right time. He highlighted the exploitation of Janajati people in the name of politics in the past and stressed the BJP’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and development of the tribal community.
Dr. Saha underlined the crucial role of the TTAADC in Tripura’s overall development, stating that without the progress of the TTAADC, the advancement of Tripura as a whole would not be possible. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in working towards the comprehensive development of Janajati communities.
One of the key figures to join the BJP was Paritosh Debbarma, a former Zonal Chairman of Tipra Motha and a founding member of the Youth Tipra Federation who served as the Dhalai district in-charge. Dr. Saha commended Debbarma’s decision to align with a national party, viewing it as a step towards sustainable development for the state and the nation.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significant number of people joining the BJP and reiterated the government’s dedication to the development of Janajati communities. He pointed out that seven Janajati individuals have been honored with the Padma Shri award, emphasizing that respect and recognition are not given for votes but as a genuine gesture of appreciation.
The influx of new members into the BJP is expected to bolster the party’s position in the lead-up to the TTAADC elections, indicating a shift in local political dynamics. The move reflects a growing support for the BJP among the tribal population in Tripura and sets the stage for a competitive electoral contest in the region.
