Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha declared on Saturday that the Tripura Police has significantly increased its efforts to combat drug trafficking across the state over the past 10 days. This initiative is part of the police force’s “Zero Tolerance” policy against narcotics.
The Chief Minister revealed that a joint operation between the state police and intelligence agencies resulted in the seizure of 896 kilograms of cannabis, 90,617 bottles of banned cough syrup, 180 Yaba tablets, and 27.78 grams of heroin.
As a result of this intensified crackdown, 15 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were registered, and 16 individuals were arrested in connection with the illegal drug trade.
“Tripura Police is dedicated to eradicating the drug problem in the state and apprehending all those involved in this vicious cycle,” stated Dr. Saha.
He emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to creating a drug-free environment for the youth of Tripura.
The Chief Minister commended the state police for their proactive actions and emphasized that the administration will continue to pursue offenders under strict laws as part of their ongoing battle against drugs.
