Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee has vowed to take “strong action” against party MLA Tafazzal Hussain for his critical remarks about MP Biplab Kumar Deb and former Union minister Pratima Bhoumik. The controversy began when Hussain, speaking at a football match in Boxanagar, accused Deb and Bhoumik of refusing to provide financial assistance for the construction of a gallery at a local ground.
Hussain claimed that he had approached Bhoumik and Deb for funding, but they declined. However, Bhattacharjee readily agreed and allocated Rs 50 lakh from his MPLAD fund for the project. Bhattacharjee, who was present at the event, publicly denounced Hussain’s comments and assured reporters that the matter had been brought to the attention of the central leadership.
In his statement, Bhattacharjee emphasized the importance of respecting senior party leaders like Deb and Bhoumik, highlighting their contributions to the party. He stressed that Deb, a former chief minister and current Lok Sabha MP, along with Bhoumik, a former Union minister, play vital roles within the party.
The BJP’s state unit is expected to formally address the issue with the central leadership in the near future. The controversy has sparked tensions within the party, underscoring the need for unity and adherence to party principles. (With inputs from PTI)
