AGARTALA: Emphasizing the role of students in nation-building and social service, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Umakanta Academy (Bengali Medium) officially launched its seven-day “Special NSS Camp” today. The inaugural ceremony, held at the historic school premises, was graced by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder as the Chief Guest.
Inauguration and Dignitaries
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Mayor Dipak Majumder. He was joined on the dais by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sadar, Manik Lal Das, along with the school’s Headmaster and senior NSS program coordinators.
Speaking to the young volunteers, Mayor Majumder lauded the NSS for its contribution to personality development through community service.
“Students are the future architects of our society. The NSS motto ‘Not Me, But You’ teaches us the importance of selflessness. This seven-day camp is an opportunity for these young minds to step out of the classroom and understand the real-world challenges faced by our communities,” the Mayor remarked.
Focus Areas of the 7-Day Camp
The special camp, which will run from January 27 to February 2, 2026, involves a series of structured activities aimed at social upliftment and civic awareness. Key focus areas include:
- Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Cleaning drives within the school campus and surrounding localities.
- Health and Hygiene: Awareness campaigns on seasonal diseases and the importance of sanitation.
- Social Forestry: Sapling plantation drives to enhance the green cover in the city.
- Digital Literacy: Volunteers will interact with local residents to promote the use of digital payment systems and government welfare portals.
SDM’s Advice to Volunteers
Sadar SDM Manik Lal Das addressed the technical sessions, highlighting the importance of discipline and time management. He encouraged the students to use this platform to build leadership qualities and a sense of social responsibility that would serve them well in their future professional lives.
The inauguration concluded with an energetic rally by the NSS volunteers within the capital complex, carrying placards with slogans for environmental protection and a drug-free Tripura. The school authorities expressed their gratitude to the guests and reiterated their commitment to fostering a spirit of service among the students.
