AGARTALA (Banamalipur): In a significant move to enhance public health and civic amenities in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs, the Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP and BJP State President, Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee, formally inaugurated a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purification Project at Math Chowmuhani Bazaar today. The project, falling under the Banamalipur Assembly constituency, was executed under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MP-LADS).
Safe Drinking Water: A Basic Right
Addressing a gathering of local traders, pedestrians, and residents at the market, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee emphasized that access to clean and safe drinking water is not a luxury but a fundamental necessity for a healthy life.
“Markets like Math Chowmuhani are the lifelines of our city, frequented by thousands of people daily. By installing this high-capacity RO plant, we are ensuring that every shopkeeper, daily wage earner, and passerby has access to purified water free of charge. This is a vital step toward preventing water-borne diseases and promoting a ‘Swastha Tripura’ (Healthy Tripura),” MP Rajib Bhattacharjee stated.
Project Impact and Implementation
The RO purification unit is designed to handle high footfall and provide a continuous supply of treated water.
- Beneficiaries: Thousands of small-scale vendors, buyers, and pedestrians who previously had to rely on packaged water or untreated sources.
- Corporate Synergy: The project was implemented with technical support from Tripura Natural Gas Company Ltd. (TNGCL), showcasing a successful collaboration between parliamentary funds and corporate social responsibility.
- Maintenance: The MP urged the local Market Committee to take ownership of the facility and ensure its regular upkeep so that it continues to serve the public for years to come.
Focus on Banamalipur’s Development
During the event, the MP reiterated his commitment to the Banamalipur constituency. He noted that several such “last-mile” development projects are being prioritized to improve the quality of life in urban pockets. He also took the opportunity to interact with the local business community, listening to their grievances regarding drainage and market lighting, promising swift resolutions.
A Call for Cleanliness and Peace
Beyond the water project, Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee made a fervent appeal to the citizens to maintain the sanctity of the market area. He urged everyone to support the state government’s “Drug-Free Tripura” mission and to keep the commercial zones free from anti-social elements.
The inauguration was met with widespread appreciation from the Math Chowmuhani Bazaar Committee. Traders noted that during the scorching summer months, this RO plant would be a “godsend” for those who spend their entire day at the market.
