AGARTALA: In a reassuring display of state-backed labor welfare coordination, Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy visited the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital today to oversee the safe discharge and rehabilitation of an injured migrant worker.
The worker, an artisan from an outside state who was employed at a local confectionery shop in the South Tripura district, had sustained severe burn injuries a few days ago when boiling cooking oil accidentally spilled over him during his duties.
Following active medical and financial interventions sponsored by the state’s Labour Directorate, the artisan has made a full clinical recovery. Today, he was officially discharged from the VVIP medical ward and safely escorted back to his residence in the presence of the Minister.
A Specialized Care Shield for Out-of-State Laborers
Migrant workers employed across unorganized commercial units, such as local sweet shops and eateries, frequently operate without structural health insurance grids. Upon receiving news of the industrial accident in South Tripura, the Labour Department immediately took up the worker’s case, ensuring absolute care under the state’s emergency medical framework.
Highlights of the State-Backed Recovery Operation:
- Advanced Burn Treatment: The patient was rushed from the southern subdivision to the advanced trauma and burn care unit of the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) at GBP Hospital.
- Zero Fiscal Burden: The entire cost of precision diagnostics, specialized skin care medications, and daily clinical logistics was fully borne under the welfare provisions of the Labour Department.
- Safe Resettlement: Upon being declared fit by the supervising medical board, the department arranged secure transport logistics to comfortably drop the worker back to his residential base.
“Every Worker Contributes to Tripura’s Progress, Regardless of Origin”: Minister Tinku Roy
Addressing newsmen gathered at the GBP Hospital briefing courtyard after interacting with the recovered artisan and the attending doctors, Labour Minister Tinku Roy emphasized his department’s zero-compromise stance on labor safety.
”As soon as our department was alerted to this tragic workplace accident in South Tripura where an out-of-state sweet artisan suffered severe oil burns, we issued strict orders to mobilize immediate medical support. Laborers coming from outside our borders to work in Tripura are an essential part of our local business economy, and their safety is our direct responsibility.
Under our current welfare model, we made sure he received high-quality treatment here at GBP Hospital without having to worry about a single rupee. Today, I am deeply happy to see him walking out completely healthy. The Labour Department is not just tracking large factories; we are actively monitoring small-scale shops, brick kilns, and local markets to safeguard the health rights of every single unorganized worker,” Labour Minister Tinku Roy stated to reporters.
Department Outlines Strict Safety Protocols for Commercial Kitchens
The Minister concluded the media interaction by advising all commercial sweet shops, restaurant syndicates, and manufacturing units across the districts to strictly enforce standard workplace safety guidelines, especially when handling high-temperature boilers and deep-frying equipment during the peak summer months.
Senior hospital officials and labor inspectors present at the venue noted that such proactive administrative follow-ups provide a massive sense of security to the thousands of inter-state workers currently driving the hospitality and micro-enterprise sectors across Tripura.
