In observance of National Science Day, the Tripura Chapter of the Breakthrough Science Society (BSS) organized a commemorative program today at the Paradise Choumuhani area in Agartala. The event was held to honor the invaluable contributions of legendary scientists and to promote a scientific temperament among the general public.
National Science Day is celebrated across India to mark the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by the great Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.
Floral Tributes and Public Awareness
Members and volunteers of the Breakthrough Science Society gathered at the busy intersection to offer floral tributes to the portraits of iconic Indian and global scientists. The program aimed to remind citizens of the role science plays in the progress of modern civilization.
Key highlights of the event included:
- Floral Offering: Tributes were paid to scientists like Sir C.V. Raman, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Prafulla Chandra Ray, and Albert Einstein.
- Message of Rationalism: Speakers from the BSS emphasized the importance of developing a “scientific temper” to counter superstitions and misinformation in society.
- Literature Distribution: Pamphlets and science journals were distributed to passersby to encourage curiosity and the habit of questioning among the youth.
The Vision of Breakthrough Science Society
Addressing the gathering, representatives of the BSS Tripura Chapter stated that science should not be confined to laboratories but must reach every corner of the state.
”Our objective is to inspire the younger generation to take up science not just as a career, but as a way of life. By honoring these great minds at a public square like Paradise Choumuhani, we want to bring the message of rational thinking to the common man,” a BSS member remarked.
The Significance of the Day
The event also highlighted this year’s theme for National Science Day, focusing on indigenous technologies and sustainable development. The BSS urged the state government to increase investment in science education and laboratory facilities in rural schools across Tripura.
The brief yet impactful ceremony concluded with a call to the citizens of Agartala to support the cause of science and scientific education as the foundation for a developed nation.
