Agartala | March 3, 2026
In a significant boost to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) elections, a group of 26 political activists and leaders from the indigenous regional parties joined the saffron brigade today. The joining ceremony took place at the BJP State Headquarters in Agartala.
The defectors include 22 members from TIPRA Motha and 4 members from the Tipraland State Party (TSP), marking a notable shift in the political landscape of the tribal belts.
Welcomed by State Leadership
The new members were officially inducted into the party by Shri Bipin Debbarma, the BJP State General Secretary. He welcomed the leaders by handing them the party flag and traditional Risa.
Key Details of the Joining:
- TIPRA Motha Exodus: 22 active workers from various blocks of TIPRA Motha decided to switch allegiances, citing a desire to work for the “mainstream development” of the indigenous people.
- TSP Participation: 4 members from the Tipraland State Party also joined, further consolidating the BJP’s strength in the regional pockets.
- Organizational Impact: This joining is expected to strengthen the BJP’s grassroots network in several key constituencies under the District Council.
“Belief in Development Over Rhetoric” — Bipin Debbarma
Speaking at the event, State General Secretary Bipin Debbarma stated that the continuous joining of indigenous leaders proves that the “Double Engine” government’s work is reaching the hills.
”Today, 26 brothers and sisters from TIPRA Motha and TSP have joined the BJP. They have realized that the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Dr. Manik Saha is the only way to ensure the socio-economic upliftment of the Tiprasa people. We welcome them to the world’s largest political family,” he remarked.
Reason for the Shift
According to the joining members, the lack of clarity regarding the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and internal organizational issues within the regional parties prompted their decision to join the BJP. They expressed confidence that under the BJP, the development of tribal areas would be faster and more stable.
Election Context
The joining comes at a crucial time as all major political parties are “warming up” for the TTAADC polls. By attracting workers from the principal opposition (TIPRA Motha) and other regional entities like TSP, the BJP is positioning itself as a dominant force in the tribal council, which was previously a stronghold of regionalist sentiments.
The ceremony concluded with the new members pledging to work dedicatedly to ensure a BJP victory in the upcoming council elections.
