The capital city is being placed under a high-security blanket as it prepares to welcome Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan for a two-day official visit on March 7 and 8. Addressing the media today, West Tripura District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Vishal Kumar provided a detailed briefing on the administrative arrangements, traffic diversions, and the high-profile itinerary of the Vice President.
According to the DM, the visit is a moment of “immense pride and joy” for the people of Tripura, and every effort is being made to ensure the programs proceed smoothly.
The Vice President’s Itinerary: Key Highlights
The two-day visit is packed with academic, religious, and social interactions:
- Convocation at Tripura University: The centerpiece of the visit is the 14th Convocation Ceremony of Tripura University, where the Vice President will be the Chief Guest and deliver the convocation address.
- Spiritual Visit to Matabari: On March 8, the Vice President will travel to Udaipur to offer prayers at the revered Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths.
- Interaction with ‘Lakhpati Didis’: At the Hapania Fairground, he will interact with women entrepreneurs and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) who have achieved financial independence through government schemes.
- Tribute at Albert Ekka War Memorial: He is also scheduled to pay floral tributes to the martyrs of the 1971 war at the war memorial in Agartala.
Administrative & Security Measures
DM Dr. Vishal Kumar emphasized that the district administration is working in close coordination with central agencies and the state police.
- Security Protocol: A multi-tier security ring will be deployed at MBB Airport, Lok Bhavan (where he will stay), and all event venues.
- Traffic Advisories: Residents have been advised of potential traffic restrictions on the VIP route from the airport to the city and the highway leading to Udaipur.
- Medical Readiness: Specialized medical teams and emergency services have been put on standby at every location the Vice President is scheduled to visit.

During the press conference, the DM urged the public to cooperate with the security personnel to maintain order.
”This visit signifies the central government’s focus on the development and cultural heritage of Tripura. We have completed all logistical preparations at the administrative level,” Dr. Vishal Kumar informed the reporters.
Stay at Lok Bhavan
The Vice President will be hosted by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan, where a high-level dinner with state dignitaries, including Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, is expected to take place on Saturday evening.
