The Department of Physics at Women’s College, Agartala, has launched a prestigious three-day national-level lecture workshop titled “Recent Trends in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences.” Held at the Matangini Hall within the college premises, the workshop aims to bridge the gap between various scientific disciplines and expose students from various colleges to cutting-edge global research.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by a galaxy of eminent academicians and scientists from across India.
A Confluence of Scientific Minds
The workshop was officially inaugurated in the presence of:
- Prof. Shyamal Das: Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, who attended as the Chief Guest.
- Dr. Sarbari Nath: Principal of Women’s College, Agartala.
- Prof. Indra Dasgupta: The Convenor of the workshop, who outlined the vision behind this academic initiative.
Distinguished Resource Persons
Over the course of three days, students will have the rare opportunity to learn from some of India’s most respected scientists:
- Prof. B. N. Dev: Center for Quantum Engineering, Research, and Education (CQERE), Kolkata.
- Prof. Swagata Dasgupta: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.
- Prof. Debajyoti Ghoshal: Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
- Prof. Shaon Ray Chaudhuri: Tripura University, Agartala.
- Prof. Mrinal Kanti Ghosh: Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata.
Workshop Structure: 12 Expert Lectures
The three-day schedule is meticulously planned to cover diverse scientific frontiers:
- The Content: The experts will deliver a total of 12 specialized lectures covering topics from Quantum Mechanics and Protein Chemistry to Mathematical Modeling and Microbial Technology.
- The Audience: Hundreds of students from various colleges across Tripura have registered to participate, making it one of the largest academic gatherings in the state this year.
- Interactive Sessions: Each lecture will be followed by a Q&A session, allowing students to interact directly with the scientists and discuss potential career paths in research.

Welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Sarbari Nath emphasized that such workshops are vital for encouraging female students to pursue higher research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
”Our goal is to provide our students with exposure beyond textbooks. Bringing legends from IITs and IACS to our campus inspires the next generation of women scientists in Tripura,” she noted.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shyamal Das lauded the Physics Department for its initiative, stating that interdisciplinary study is the key to solving modern-day challenges like climate change and pandemic management.
