In a major step toward transforming Tripura into a premier healthcare hub of the Northeast, Hon’ble Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha is scheduled to inaugurate several newly established medical facilities at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) & GBP Hospital today at 12:00 NOON.
The inauguration marks the completion of key infrastructure projects aimed at reducing patient referrals outside the state and providing super-specialty care locally.
New Facilities Set for Inauguration
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, will dedicate a series of high-end medical units to the public:
- Mother and Child Care Wing: A state-of-the-art facility funded by the DoNER Ministry (approx. ₹192 crore) dedicated to maternal and neonatal health.
- Super-Specialty Upgrades: Integration of advanced equipment for specialized departments, following the recent launch of nine super-specialty services at the hospital.
- Modernized Wards: Newly renovated patient care units designed to improve the bed-to-patient ratio and comfort during long-term treatments.
Focus on the “AIIMS Model” of Governance
The event follows a recent high-level review of the MoU between AIIMS, New Delhi, and the Government of Tripura.
- Service Excellence: The new facilities will operate under updated management protocols developed in collaboration with AIIMS to ensure “Centre of Excellence” standards.
- Digital Health: The program may also highlight the expansion of the Inter-Departmental Referral System (IDRS) and digital patient feedback mechanisms like the ‘Santusht’ app.
- Top 10 Ambition: Dr. Saha has repeatedly expressed his vision to bring AGMC into the Top 10 Medical Colleges of India, and today’s inauguration is a significant milestone toward that goal.

The ceremony at the KLS Auditorium will see the presence of several high-ranking officials, including:
- Shri Kiran Gitte, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department.
- Prof. (Dr.) Anup Kumar Saha, Principal, AGMC.
- Dr. Sankar Chakrabarti, Medical Superintendent, GBP Hospital.
The Road Ahead: Kidney and Liver Transplants
With five successful kidney transplants already completed at GBP Hospital, the Chief Minister is expected to provide an update on the upcoming Liver Transplant facility, which is currently being prioritized by the state government to further self-reliance in the healthcare sector.
