AGARTALA: Demonstrating their commitment to saving lives beyond the call of fire-fighting duties, the Tripura Fire & Emergency Services Department organized a mega blood donation camp today. The event was held at the department’s state headquarters located at Fire Brigade Chowmuhani in the capital.
The initiative aimed to replenish the state’s blood banks and foster a spirit of social responsibility among the personnel who are often the first responders in times of crisis.
Dignitaries Encourage Donors
The camp was inaugurated in the presence of senior officials and veterans of the service. Key attendees included:
- Shri Mithun Das Chowdhury, Joint Director of Fire & Emergency Services.
- Shri Uttam Mondal, Former Director of the department.
- Other senior officers and medical staff from the state blood transfusion council.
Lead by Example
Speaking at the event, Joint Director Mithun Das Chowdhury lauded the enthusiasm of the firefighters and staff members. He emphasized that blood donation is a “supreme service” that aligns perfectly with the department’s motto of saving lives and property.
”Our personnel risk their lives in the face of fire and disasters every day. By donating blood, they are extending that same commitment to patients in hospitals who are fighting for their lives,” said the Joint Director.
Massive Participation
A large number of fire service personnel, including young recruits and senior officers, participated in the drive. Medical teams ensured that the donation process followed all safety protocols.
Former Director Uttam Mondal also shared his thoughts, noting that such institutional initiatives are crucial for maintaining a steady supply of blood, especially during the summer months when voluntary donations often see a slight dip.
The collected units were later handed over to the government blood bank for use in various state-run hospitals.
