AGARTALA | June 14, 2026: In alignment with the nationwide celebrations marking the completion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years of central governance, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal participated in a mega tree plantation drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name) today.
The environment safety event was organized at the premises of the Nutannagar Girls’ Higher Secondary School in West Tripura on Sunday morning.
Fostering Environmental Protection for Future Generations
The Union Minister formally kicked off the campaign by planting a sapling within the high school campus. Addressing a large assembly of young students, educators, and local community members, Sonowal emphasized the immediate need to combat global warming, maintain ecological balance, and expand the state’s green cover.
He noted that ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ is not just an administrative campaign but a deep emotional and social responsibility connecting every citizen to mother nature.
”Planting a tree in honor of our mothers is the ultimate tribute we can pay to both our creators. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this green initiative is being rolled out across India to build a healthier, pollution-free planet for our future generations. Every student and citizen must adopt at least one sapling to protect our fragile climate,” Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated during his interaction.
Strict Administrative Presence and Local Mobilization
The localized climate action drive witnessed high enthusiasm, with school girls and institutional staff members planting dozens of native fruit-bearing and shade-providing medicinal trees across the campus boundary.
The VVIP development program was smoothly coordinated by the regional administration. Alongside the Union Minister, West Tripura District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Vishal Kumar, senior education department directors, and top security officials remained present to supervise the ecological event.
