AGARTALA: Highlighting the critical role of financial independence in gender equality, State Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy today inaugurated a special program to commemorate “International Women’s Day 2026” at the Pragya Bhavan in Agartala.
The event was organized by the Directorate of Institutional Finance and Social Audit (DIFSA) under the Finance Department of the Government of Tripura. The program focused on the intersection of financial literacy, social auditing, and women’s empowerment.
Minister Stresses Financial Autonomy
In his inaugural address, Minister Pranajit Singha Roy stated that a society can only be truly developed when its women are economically self-reliant and financially literate.
- Financial Literacy: The Minister urged the Directorate to expand its reach to the grassroots level, ensuring that women in rural areas are aware of various banking services, insurance schemes, and government subsidies.
- Social Audit: He emphasized the importance of social auditing in ensuring that welfare funds intended for women and children are utilized transparently and effectively at the ground level.
- Government Initiatives: Singha Roy also touched upon the state’s efforts to promote women-led entrepreneurship through simplified credit facilities and self-help group (SHG) networking.

The ceremony was attended by top brass from the state’s financial administration, including:
- Shri Apurba Roy, Secretary of the Finance Department.
- Senior officials from the Directorate of Institutional Finance and Social Audit.
- Representatives from various banking institutions and financial regulatory bodies.
Focus on Institutional Finance
Secretary Apurba Roy, during his speech, discussed the institutional mechanisms being put in place to protect women from predatory lending and to encourage formal savings. He noted that the Finance Department is working on a roadmap to increase the “Credit-Deposit Ratio” for women entrepreneurs in Tripura, which will act as a catalyst for local economic growth.
Recognition of Achievers
The program also saw the felicitation of several women who have demonstrated exceptional skills in managing community finances and leading social audit teams in their respective blocks. The event concluded with a technical session aimed at educating attendees on digital financial safety and the benefits of institutional investment.
