AGARTALA: In a major breakthrough against street crime in the capital, the New Capital Complex (NCC) Police Station has successfully apprehended three individuals involved in a brazen daylight robbery. The arrests follow an intensive investigation into a snatching incident that occurred in the Indranagar area late last month.
The operation was spearheaded by SDPO Subrata Barman, whose team tracked the suspects through a combination of local intelligence and CCTV surveillance.
The Incident: April 29
The robbery took place on April 29, when a woman walking through the Indranagar locality was intercepted by three men. The miscreants forcibly snatched a gold necklace from her neck before fleeing the scene. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the NCC Police Station, prompting the SDPO to form a special investigation unit.
Details of the Arrest:
- Police Unit: NCC PS under the leadership of SDPO Subrata Barman.
- Charges: Snatching and criminal conspiracy under relevant sections of the BNS.
- Recovery: Efforts are currently underway to recover the stolen gold ornament from the possession of the accused or the locations where it may have been sold.
“No Mercy for Criminals”: SDPO Subrata Barman
Addressing the media at the NCC Police Station, SDPO Subrata Barman confirmed that the three suspects were picked up from different hideouts in and around Agartala.
”Since the report on April 29, our teams have been working tirelessly. We identified the suspects through technical surveillance. This arrest sends a clear message that the police will not tolerate such activities. We are now interrogating them to see if they are part of a larger gang involved in similar snatching cases across the city,” the SDPO stated.
Increased Vigilance in Indranagar
The Indranagar and ITI areas have recently seen a spike in reports of petty theft, leading to increased public concern. Residents have welcomed the swift action by the NCC PS, noting that the arrest of this trio is likely to curb such incidents in the near future.
The three accused are scheduled to be produced before the Agartala Court today, where the police will seek their custody for further interrogation and the recovery of the stolen property.
