AGARTALA: In a major boost to the city’s healthcare infrastructure, the much-anticipated Agartala Civil Hospital is set to be inaugurated soon. Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Dipak Majumder, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the facility yesterday at Jackson Gate, confirming that the project is in its final stages and likely to open its doors to the public by the first week of June.
The Mayor, accompanied by senior AMC officials and local corporators, reviewed the pending technical works to ensure the hospital is ready for a grand inauguration by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
A Modern Healthcare Model
The Agartala Civil Hospital is a unique project for the state, modeled after successful municipal-run hospitals in cities like Mumbai. Spanning approximately 18,000 square feet, this modern facility is designed to provide high-quality medical services under the direct management of the Municipal Corporation.
Key Features of the Hospital:
- Capacity: A 50-bed facility equipped with modern medical infrastructure.
- Specialized Care: Multiple Outpatient Departments (OPDs) covering major medical specialties.
- Surgical Facilities: Inclusion of a minor operation theater for small surgical procedures.
- Extended Hours: To assist working families, the hospital will operate from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
- Patient Comfort: The building features modern amenities, including lifts and patient-friendly waiting areas.
“Easing the Burden on Referral Hospitals”: Mayor
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized that the primary goal of this civil hospital is to reduce the immense pressure on the state’s two main referral centers—GBP Hospital and IGM Hospital.
”This is a dream project of our Chief Minister. Our objective is to ensure that residents of Agartala can access quality healthcare without the long wait times seen at major hospitals. We have a final review scheduled for May 20, after which we will finalize the inauguration date. We are hopeful that by early June, the people will have their own dedicated city hospital,” the Mayor stated.
Operational Structure
Once operational, the seven Primary Health Centers (PHCs) currently functioning within the city limits will be integrated under the administrative umbrella of this new Civil Hospital. The project is funded by the state government and represents a significant step toward decentralizing healthcare services in West Tripura.
The completion of this hospital, housed in the old municipal building, has been a priority for the AMC. With construction now nearly 100% complete, the residents of the capital are looking forward to a more accessible and efficient medical service right in the heart of the city.
