AGARTALA: Joining the wave of austerity measures sweeping through the state’s leadership, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP State President Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee was seen touring his constituency on a scooty today. Following the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reduce fuel consumption and the recent examples set by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the MP ditched his usual SUV for a more fuel-efficient two-wheeler.
Accompanied by a few party workers, the MP visited several localities in Agartala to interact with citizens and oversee local development projects.
A Growing “Eco-Movement” in Tripura Politics
The sight of top-tier leaders opting for bicycles and scooters has become a symbol of the state’s response to the global energy crisis.
Key Highlights of the MP’s Tour:
- Austerity in Action: By using a scooty, the MP significantly reduced the carbon footprint and fuel expenditure usually associated with an MP’s motorcade.
- Grassroots Connect: Residents noted that the use of a two-wheeler allowed the leader to navigate narrow lanes and stop easily to listen to public grievances.
- Fuel Conservation Message: During his stops, Rajib Bhattacharjee urged citizens to adopt carpooling, use public transport, or switch to electric vehicles (EVs) whenever possible.
“Every Drop Counts”: Rajib Bhattacharjee
Speaking to locals during his field visit, the Rajya Sabha MP emphasized that the nation’s strength lies in the collective discipline of its citizens.
”Our Prime Minister has made a heartfelt appeal to the nation to save energy. When the Chief Minister can reduce his convoy and our ministers can cycle to work, it is our duty as public representatives to lead this change. Using a scooty today reminded me of my days as a grassroot worker. It’s practical, saves fuel, and keeps us connected to the soil,” Rajib Bhattacharjee stated.
A Unified Response from the “Double Engine” Govt
The MP’s scooty tour follows a series of high-profile austerity moves in Tripura:
- CM Manik Saha: Reduced his security convoy from 7 to 4 vehicles.
- Minister Ratan Lal Nath: Began cycling to official programs.
- Minister Sushanta Chowdhury: Discontinued two escort vehicles from his security detail.
- Administrative Reform: Implementation of 50% Work-From-Home for government staff to cut down daily transit fuel.
Public Sentiment
The “Scooty Diplomacy” has been well-received by the public, with many appreciating the move as a sincere effort to relate to the common man’s struggles with rising fuel costs. It also reinforces the BJP’s current organizational theme of Antyodaya—reaching the last person with humility and service.
