AGARTALA: In a major step toward making Tripura a leader in renewable energy, the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) held its 29th Governing Body Meeting today at the Geetanjali Guest House. The high-level meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Power Minister Shri Ratan Lal Nath, focusing on the state’s progress under national solar missions and outlining the roadmap for future green infrastructure.
The meeting saw the participation of all eight Zilla Sabhadhipatis, the Secretary of Power, and the Director of TREDA to review the implementation of ongoing clean energy projects.
Major Decision: Solar Power for all Zilla Sabhadhipati Offices
Building on the successful solarization of administrative hubs, the Power Minister announced a new deadline for district-level offices.
- 100% Coverage: Following the successful installation of solar panels in all eight District Magistrate (DM) offices, it has now been decided that the offices of all eight Zilla Sabhadhipatis will be fully powered by solar energy by the end of this month.
- Green Governance: This move is part of the state’s broader mission to reduce carbon footprints and lead by example in the adoption of renewable energy within government institutions.
National Recognition: Leading in PM-KUSUM
Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted that Tripura has emerged as a frontrunner in the country under the PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme.
Key Achievements Noted:
- National Rank: Tripura currently holds the number one position in India for the implementation of solar irrigation pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme.
- Target Status: Against a target of 10,000 installations, TREDA has already completed 5,000 units, covering over 4,000 kani of previously uncultivated farmland.
- Success Stories: The Minister shared that farmers across the state are reporting higher yields and reduced costs, as solar-powered pumps have allowed them to cultivate vegetables on land that was once barren due to lack of irrigation.
Microgrids and Rural Electrification
The meeting also discussed the success of Solar Microgrids in remote tribal hamlets.
”Our work in the Reang-dominated areas has been specifically praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat program. Under the PM-DevINE scheme, we are providing free solar microgrids to villages where conventional electricity hasn’t reached, ensuring that lighting and clean drinking water are no longer luxuries for our rural brothers and sisters,” Ratan Lal Nath told reporters after the session.
Looking Ahead
The Sabhadhipatis from all eight districts expressed their satisfaction during the meeting, noting that their previous suggestions for rural energy projects have been effectively implemented by TREDA. The agency plans to further expand the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana to reach urban households in the coming months, aiming to make Agartala a “Solar City” in the near future.
