AGARTALA: Taking proactive measures to combat urban waterlogging issues before the monsoon rains intensify, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder conducted a high-level on-site inspection today. The focus of the visit was to review several pending and incomplete drainage construction projects across Ward No. 16 under the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency.
Accompanied by AMC municipal engineers, ward council supervisors, and local administrative workers, the Mayor walked through the interior sectors of the ward to evaluate structural bottlenecks delaying project completions.
Addressing media professionals at a press briefing setup in the Ramnagar area immediately after the inspection, Mayor Dipak Majumder assured local families that all lagging civilian infrastructure works would be resolved on an absolute priority basis.
Zeroing In on Monsoon Waterlogging Vulnerabilities
Ward No. 16 has historically encountered localized flash floods and slow drainage clearances during heavy summer downpours. The civic body’s current push focuses on converting obsolete open canals into scientifically planned, high-capacity covered concrete conduits.
Key Field Directives Issued by the AMC Mayor:
- Wartime Execution Timeline: The Mayor issued strict mandates to contractors and on-duty junior engineers to clear up structural backlogs and complete raw cementing works immediately.
- Unblocking Silt Clusters: Instructions were passed down to immediately clear choked pipeline joints and remove construction debris that is currently obstructing the natural gravitational flow of wastewater.
- Coordinated Structural Alignment: The urban planning department has been told to smoothly link the internal ward drains with major outfall lines leading to nearby river pumping stations.
“Enhancing Citizens’ Comfort is Our Ultimate Priority”: Mayor Dipak Majumder
Speaking directly to reporters, Mayor Dipak Majumder—who also represents the Ramnagar constituency as its Legislative Assembly Member (MLA)—emphasized that public safety and civic ease will not be compromised due to sluggish contractors.
”Our municipal team has closely inspected the internal paths of Ward No. 16 today to address the incomplete drainage lines that are causing valid anxieties among local residents. We understand that with the monsoons setting in, any delay in these public works can lead to severe waterlogging, directly disrupting everyday life and local commercial shops.
I have clearly instructed our engineering cell to accelerate the remaining tasks on a wartime footing. We are looking at every single technical error or layout gap causing this delay and will resolve it as quickly as humanly possible. The ultimate goal of the Agartala Municipal Corporation is to deliver long-term, high-quality, and stress-free urban living conditions to every neighborhood. We are monitoring these infrastructure blocks daily, and our citizens will witness visible relief very shortly,” AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder announced during his press meet.
Local Residents Welcome Direct Administrative Intervention
The surprise field visit by the city head brought significant relief to the local families of Ramnagar, who actively interacted with the administrative team to point out localized water-pooling pockets.
Senior corporation engineers present at the venue assured the Mayor that labor shifts are being doubled to guarantee that critical cover-slab installations are safely wrapped up within the coming week, ensuring seamless road connectivity and disease-free drainage flow across Ward 16.
