AGARTALA: Resonating with the sound of sacred conch shells, Vedic chants, and deep spiritual fervor, the Tirodhan Dibas (Disappearance Day) of revered 18th-century saint Sri Sri Baba Lokenath Brahmachari was observed across Tripura today.
To mark the auspicious occasion of Wednesday, 19th Jaistha, thousands of fast-keeping devotees lined up outside major shrines, with the capital’s flagship Lokenath Ashram and Temple complex witnessing an overwhelming sea of people since the early hours of the morning.
The sacred day was observed globally across all major Lokenath missions, with Tripura hosting specialized mass prayers, continuous religious discourses, and community feast distributions (Mahaprasad) across urban and rural subdivisions.
Spiritual Formality: Elaborate Rituals and Midnight Vigils
At the main Lokenath Temple in Agartala, the administrative management committee set up heavy barricades and separate entrance lines to seamlessly guide the massive influx of devotees who arrived from various districts of the state.
Key Highlights of the Sacred Observance:
- The Dawn Aarati: The day commenced at 4:30 AM with the specialized Maha Aarati, followed by the ritualistic bathing (Abhishekam) of Baba Lokenath’s idol with milk, honey, and sacred Ganges water.
- The Mahaprasad Grid: Temple volunteer cells worked continuously to prepare and distribute sacred Khichuri Prasad to over ten thousand devotees who sat in designated community dining halls throughout the afternoon.
- Chanting and Meditation: Continuous collective recitations of Baba Lokenath’s central protective mantra—“Rane Bane Jongole Jakhani Bipode Poribe, Amake Smaran Koribe, Ami-i Tomake Rokkha Koribo” (Whenever you are in danger, whether in war, forest, or wilderness, remember me, and I shall protect you)—echoed across the temple perimeter.
Devotees Share Their Spiritual Experiences
By afternoon, the queue of devotees holding offerings of flowers, fruits, and sacred thread (Dhaaga) stretched well beyond the main temple gates onto the adjoining thoroughfares.
”Every year on 19th Jaistha, our entire family keeps a strict fast and visits Baba’s temple to seek his divine blessings. Baba Lokenath’s philosophy is incredibly simple—he didn’t ask for grand rituals; he only asked for pure devotion and absolute selflessness. Standing in this massive crowd today gives me an unexplainable sense of mental peace and spiritual strength. Despite the intense summer heat, seeing the deep faith of thousands of fellow devotees makes you feel part of a beautiful spiritual family,” a female devotee standing in the queue shared with reporters.
Volunteers and Security Cells Ensure Smooth Execution
Given the massive footfall, local club volunteers alongside civil defense cells and Tripura Police personnel were deployed at critical traffic intersections surrounding the temple to prevent traffic congestion. Special medical aid camps and free drinking water booths were also set up along the walkways by local youth organizations to assist elderly devotees waiting in the long queues.
Religious programs, devotional music evenings (Bhajan Sandhya), and specialized text readings from the Lokenath Charitamrita continued late into Wednesday night, concluding the high spiritual festival with deep communal harmony.
