AGARTALA: To instill a deeper sense of ecological responsibility and promote collective citizen action against climate change, the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) organized a colorful and massive awareness rally in the capital city today on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The morning march was formally flagged off from the frontline courtyard of the Sukanta Academy complex in Agartala.
The high-profile event was graced by Forest, Science, Technology, and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma as the Chief Guest. The rally witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, drawing together hundreds of school students from local Eco-Clubs, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, environmental scientists, representatives from various non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and senior administrative executives from the environment directorate.
Spreading the Message of Conservation Across the Capital
The morning rally wound its way through several prominent thoroughfares and critical commercial intersections of Agartala before looping back systematically to the Sukanta Academy grounds.
Participants marched in disciplined formations, enthusiastically holding placards, vibrantly illustrated posters, and banners that carried vital environmental messages. The core focus of this year’s slogans remained centered around eliminating single-use plastics, implementing domestic waste segregation, preserving natural water bodies, and reducing urban air pollution.

“Environmental Protection is the Duty of Every Single Citizen”: Minister Animesh Debbarma
Addressing the massive gathering of students and climate workers outside the academy, Minister Animesh Debbarma highlighted that maintaining ecological equilibrium cannot be achieved through standalone government policy frameworks alone.
”Protecting our nature is not the exclusive responsibility of a specific government department or a few environmental scientists—it is the bounden duty of every single individual living in our towns, cities, and villages. Today, this grand awareness rally from Sukanta Academy aims to remind our citizens of that shared generational responsibility.
Tripura is blessed with immense green cover, but we must remain highly proactive in combating modern pollution challenges and safeguarding our natural resources. We need to actively adopt sustainable, eco-friendly habits in our daily routines. I am particularly delighted to see such an energetic presence of young students today. You are the true ambassadors of our green future. By committing to planting more indigenous trees and saying a resolute ‘no’ to plastic usage, we can collectively ensure a cleaner, healthier, and climate-resilient Tripura for generations to come,” Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma announced during his address.
Diverse Academic and Awareness Initiatives Rolled Out
Following the conclusion of the street march, the State Pollution Control Board hosted a series of educational engagements inside the Sukanta Academy perimeter, including a localized ‘Sit & Draw’ competition and climate-centric exhibition modules for school children.
Senior administrative officials concluded the day’s event by distributing free plant saplings to the participating institutions, emphasizing that the department will work in close tandem with local bodies to expand urban forestry networks across West Tripura district.
