AGARTALA | June 11, 2026: In an initiative aimed at strengthening the rural economy and encouraging sustainable livestock rearing, a specialized distribution program was organized today at Loke Bhawan in Agartala. The event focused on distributing high-yielding ducklings and poultry chicks to various local women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The beneficiary outreach program was graced by the Governor of Tripura, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, as the chief guest, alongside senior administrative officers from the Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD) and rural livelihood mission coordinators.
Fostering Self-Reliance via Small-Scale Poultry Farming
The distribution drive was designed to provide a secondary source of steady income to rural households, particularly empowering women entrepreneurs under the micro-enterprise livelihood framework. Backyard poultry and duck farming require low initial capital investment while offering high returns through local egg and meat sales, directly combating rural malnutrition.
”Our focus must remain on strengthening the grassroots economy. By equipping our dedicated Self-Help Groups with the necessary resources and livestock, we are not only enhancing regular rural incomes but also taking a major step toward making the state self-sufficient in poultry production,” Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu stated during his address to the beneficiaries.
The Governor and other dignitaries personally handed over the poultry kits to the SHG representatives. The ARD department officials assured the gathering that necessary veterinary support, initial feed assistance, and timely vaccination cover would be provided to the rural clusters to ensure minimal mortality and maximum output for the newly distributed livestock.
