AGARTALA | June 11, 2026: To mark World Environment Day, the Tripura state chapter of the Breakthrough Science Society organized a mass rally and street-corner assembly in the capital city on Thursday. The event was designed to spread grassroots environmental awareness and build a resilient movement against rapid ecological degradation.
The rally officially commenced from the front gates of the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala. Hundreds of science enthusiasts, students, and environmental activists marched through the city’s main thoroughfares, holding placards and chanting slogans for nature conservation, before successfully concluding the march at the Paradise Chowmuhani intersection.
Calling for Scientific Temper and Rational Environmental Policies
Addressing the media and the public during the street assembly, Tilak Chakraborty, the State Secretary of the Breakthrough Science Society, detailed the immediate ecological threats facing both the state and the planet. He emphasized that combating climate change requires strict adherence to scientific data rather than political rhetoric.
”Our planet is facing an unprecedented climate crisis, and Tripura is experiencing its ripple effects through erratic weather patterns and depleting green cover. We have organized this rally to remind citizens and policy makers that protecting the environment is no longer optional—it is a matter of absolute survival. We need scientifically backed, strict state-level policies to curb pollution, protect local water bodies, and halt illegal deforestation,” Chakraborty stated.
The organization also highlighted the critical need to cultivate a scientific temper among the younger generation to effectively counter corporate greenwashing and widespread unscientific myths surrounding environmental issues. At the conclusion of the Paradise Chowmuhani street meeting, the society’s members distributed educational leaflets detailing everyday sustainable habits, such as rainwater harvesting and minimizing single-use plastics, urging the citizens of Agartala to actively participate in safeguarding the city’s local biodiversity.
